ENGAGE WITH YOUR CLUB

Newton Storm win a £5,000 makeover with Engage Mutual

Newton Storm Rugby League Club is urging the region to get behind its local club after beating off competition from 65 other community teams to win a “makeover weekend” worth up to £5,000 courtesy of Super League title sponsor, Engage Mutual.

Newton Storm, based in Newton-le-Willows, has been awarded a unique makeover as part of Engage Mutual’s ‘Engage with your Club’ initiative in partnership with the RFL. A dedicated volunteering weekend will be held on 13th and 14th August to rejuvenate facilities and the club is now calling out to the local community and businesses to help make the weekend a success and ensure the vital funds go as far as possible.

The Newton Sports Club has been standing for over 150 years and the rugby league club plans to use the money to give its changing facilities a much needed facelift, bringing them into the 21st century and up to the standard of neighbouring teams. In the long term, Storm also hopes that the investment will go a long way in safeguarding the success of the club by helping to attract new junior and adult members.

Malcolm Hankey, Coaching Co-ordinator, at Newton Storm: “We are delighted to have been selected by Engage Mutual to receive this much needed makeover for our club. It is a fantastic initiative and the weekend of 13th and 14th August will be a great opportunity for the club to pull together and forge further links with the local community, attracting many new volunteers to help out.

“We have already received a generous offer from one of our sponsors JWS, who will provide skilled tradesmen where required and source many of the materials and equipment needed. If any other businesses would also like to get involved then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Engage Mutual and JWS for their support.”

Sky Sports pundit Jon Wells who played in 14 seasons of the Super League, is supporting the initiative alongside Brian Noble and Lee Radford. Jon added: "Grassroots rugby league is the future of the game and these clubs play a huge role in nurturing talent and giving people in local communities the chance to learn valuable skills.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the local community to give something back by coming together to help make a real difference to the facilities and future of the club.”

James Ogden, Engage Mutual’s Sponsorship Executive said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response of the ‘Engage with your Club’ initiative which is aimed at encouraging all community Rugby League clubs to hold volunteering weekends to help improve their facilities ahead of the new season.

“The £5,000 makeovers were available to two clubs which applied for the scheme and the competition was really fierce. Newton Storm is an extremely worthy winner and the panel felt that the funds would go a long way to enhancing the provision of rugby league within their community, benefiting members and supporters for years to come. I can’t wait to see the final results.”

Under 11's Win St Helens Festival

Storms outstanding u11 team produced another fantastic performance to win the St.Helens Sports Festival Rugby League Competition. Storm collected the trophy after finishing the day unbeaten and defeating Thatto Heath 2 tries to nil in the final. They showed some fantistic handling skills to score some great tries, but the main reason for success was the superb defence with the team only conceding 1 try in 5 games. Congratulations to the whole team and yet another trophy for the cabinet.

Summer Rugby is HERE!!
